{"id":1177,"date":"2013-01-10T20:15:40","date_gmt":"2013-01-11T03:15:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wptest.io\/demo\/?p=903"},"modified":"2013-01-10T20:15:40","modified_gmt":"2013-01-11T03:15:40","slug":"paris-blockchain-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wise-meet.com\/index.php\/2013\/01\/10\/paris-blockchain-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Paris Blockchain Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A\u00a0<b>blockchain<\/b>, originally\u00a0<b>block chain<\/b>,\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-primer_4-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-obmh_5-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>is a continuously growing list of\u00a0records, called\u00a0<i>blocks<\/i>, which are linked and secured using\u00a0<a title=\"Cryptography\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cryptography\">cryptography<\/a>.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-te20151031_1-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-cryptocurrencytech_6-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>Each block typically contains a\u00a0hash\u00a0pointer as a link to a previous block,<sup id=\"cite_ref-cryptocurrencytech_6-1\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0a\u00a0timestamp\u00a0and transaction data.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-IPblockchain_7-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>By design, blockchains are inherently resistant to modification of the data. It is &#8220;an open,\u00a0distributed ledger\u00a0that can record transactions between two parties efficiently and in a verifiable and permanent way&#8221;.<sup id=\"cite_ref-hbr201701_8-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0For use as a distributed ledger, a blockchain is typically managed by a\u00a0<a title=\"Peer-to-peer\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peer-to-peer\">peer-to-peer<\/a>\u00a0network collectively adhering to a protocol for validating new blocks. Once recorded, the data in any given block cannot be altered retroactively without the alteration of all subsequent blocks, which requires collusion of the network majority.<\/p>\n<p>Blockchains are\u00a0<a title=\"Secure by design\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Secure_by_design\">secure by design<\/a>\u00a0and are an example of a distributed computing system with high\u00a0Byzantine fault tolerance.\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Decentralized\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Decentralized\">Decentralized<\/a>\u00a0consensus has therefore been achieved with a blockchain.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-decapp_9-0\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>This makes blockchains potentially suitable for the recording of events, medical records,<sup id=\"cite_ref-10\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-11\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0and other\u00a0records management\u00a0activities, such as\u00a0identity management,<sup id=\"cite_ref-12\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><sup id=\"cite_ref-14\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>\u00a0transaction processing, documenting\u00a0provenance,\u00a0food traceability\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-15\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>or voting.<sup id=\"cite_ref-16\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>The first blockchain was a white paper, written in 2008 by an anonymous person or group known as\u00a0<a title=\"Satoshi Nakamoto\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Satoshi_Nakamoto\">Satoshi Nakamoto<\/a>\u00a0and implemented in 2009 as a core component of\u00a0<a title=\"Bitcoin\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bitcoin\">bitcoin<\/a>\u00a0where it serves as the public\u00a0ledger\u00a0for all transactions.\u00a0<sup id=\"cite_ref-te20151031_1-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup>The invention of the blockchain for bitcoin made it the first digital currency to solve the\u00a0double spending\u00a0problem without the need of a trusted authority or central\u00a0server.
